ACA Marketplace Plans in Palmetto
We help you sort out a marketplace plan without guessing. We check what tax credit you may qualify for, line up the plans that fit your doctors and budget, and walk you through enrollment. The consultation has no fee, and you can meet us at our office or by phone.
How marketplace plans work and who they suit
Florida uses the federal Marketplace, and the plans sold there are what people call ACA marketplace plans. The law requires them to cover the same essential benefits and bars them from refusing you over a health condition. They're also the only individual plans that offer premium tax credits, which for many people buying their own coverage matter more than anything else on the quote.
These plans often fit people who work for themselves, are between jobs, retired before Medicare or have an employer with no coverage. When your income qualifies for help, you can save a real amount. When it doesn't, we tell you and compare these plans with the other individual health insurance we offer.
As an independent insurance agency, we aren't employed by any single carrier. We shop 50+ insurance carriers, and for marketplace coverage we set every carrier in your county side by side. We never send you a bill. Our commission comes from the carrier you choose, so a look at your options costs you nothing.
How we help with marketplace coverage
Estimating your tax credit
We figure your likely income for next year and how many people the plan will cover, then estimate your premium tax credit. An accurate income figure matters, since the credit is settled at tax time.
Checking silver plan discounts
At lower incomes, silver plans include cost-sharing reductions that cut deductibles and copays. We check for this before you choose a tier, because it can make silver a better buy than a lower-priced bronze plan.
Checking doctors and prescriptions
Marketplace networks are often small. We search each plan's lists for your doctors, local hospitals and your medications so there are no surprises once you're enrolled.
Plans compared on one page
Every plan's premium, deductible, out-of-pocket max and network appear together on a single page. We explain the trade-offs clearly, and the choice is yours.
Applying and follow-up forms
We complete the application with you by phone or in person at our office. If the Marketplace later wants proof of income or citizenship, call us and we'll help you send it before the deadline, because missing it can cost you the credit.
Updates during the year
A move, a raise or a new child can shift your credit. We help you report the change so your premium stays accurate.

Signs it's time to look at a marketplace plan
- You're losing coverage at work
- Losing job-based coverage opens a special enrollment period, usually 60 days. Wait past it and you may be uninsured until the next open enrollment.
- You pay full price for your own plan
- If you bought coverage outside the marketplace, you may be skipping a tax credit you qualify for.
- Your income went up or down
- A pay change or a new side business changes your credit. Reporting it early helps you avoid owing money back at tax time.
- Your plan dropped your doctor
- Networks change every year. Open enrollment is the time to move to a plan that still includes the doctors you see.
- Your renewal notice jumped
- Auto-renewal keeps you covered, but not always on the best plan. Premiums and credits shift each year, so it's worth comparing again.
How it works when you call
- 1
A short first call
Tell us who needs coverage, your rough income and which doctors you want to keep. An agent answers your questions and sets a time to go over plans, at our Palmetto office or by phone or video.
- 2
We run the numbers
We estimate your tax credit and pull every marketplace plan that fits. Then we narrow it down to the few worth a close look.
- 3
We go over plans together
We walk through the side-by-side comparison line by line. Ask anything you want. Nobody pushes you to sign that day.
- 4
Enrollment
Once you pick, we enroll you and confirm your start date. We also tell you when the first premium is due, because coverage doesn't start until it's paid.
- 5
Same office after that
If a document request shows up or your situation changes, you call us. We know your file and pick up where we left off.
What drives your marketplace price
You pay nothing for our help. The plan carries its own premium, and a tax credit often brings it well below the sticker price. These are the things that change it.
- Your income and family size
- Your expected income is compared with a federal benchmark that goes up as more people join your plan. The lower you fall under it, the bigger your help tends to be.
- Age and tobacco
- Older adults can be charged more, and some carriers add a fee for tobacco use. Your medical history doesn't count.
- Bronze, silver or gold
- Bronze means a smaller premium and a bigger deductible, and gold is the reverse. Silver falls between them and is the only tier offering cost-sharing reductions.
- Kind of network
- Narrower HMO and EPO plans are often cheaper than plans that pay for out-of-network doctors.
- County you live in
- Prices are set county by county, and the carriers offering plans in Manatee County differ from those elsewhere in Florida.
Common questions on marketplace coverage
- Will I pay more enrolling through you instead of by myself?
- No. Your premium doesn't change whether you sign up on your own or with us, and we never charge a fee. The carrier behind the plan you choose pays us, so our review is free to you.
- When can I enroll in a marketplace plan?
- The federal Marketplace sets an open enrollment window that starts in the fall and ends in January. At other times you need a qualifying life event, such as a move, a marriage, a new baby or lost coverage. Call us and we'll tell you whether your change qualifies.
- What if my real income doesn't match my estimate?
- Your credit gets squared up when you file taxes. Earn more than expected and you might repay part of it. Earn less and you might get money back. That's why we help you update changes as they happen.
- Will my doctor still be covered?
- That varies by plan. Before you decide, we look up your doctors in every plan's network and say clearly if one leaves them out.
- My self-employed income goes up and down. Do I still qualify for a credit?
- You can. You base the estimate on the net self-employment income you expect this year. We help you pick a sensible figure and show you how to change it if business shifts.
- Is dental and vision part of a marketplace plan?
- Kids' dental and vision are required benefits. For adults they usually aren't part of the plan, but we can add coverage through our dental insurance and vision insurance options.
